What we said beforehand

Crusaders host Bangor at home in a NIFL Premiership clash on 26 September 2026. Crusaders sit mid-table in sixth place with 12 points from eight games and a neutral goal difference. One spot above them, Cliftonville are level on points, while Glentoran sit just below. Bangor are fighting for survival in eleventh place, five points from eight games and a –10 goal difference. They are one point ahead of Limavady and four clear of the bottom side Portadown. Both teams played their previous matches seven days ago, so fatigue should not be a factor. The three points on offer could see Crusaders pull away from the chasing pack or leave Bangor still clinging to the relegation zone.

Crusaders have had a mixed run in their last three fixtures. They fell 1-0 to Linfield away, then bounced back with a 3-0 victory over Dungannon Swifts at home, before losing 2-1 to Limavady on their own turf. In those three games they have scored four goals and let in three. They kept a clean sheet against Dungannon Swifts but failed to find the net against Linfield. Two of the three matches produced three or more goals, and both sides scored in the Limavady game.

Bangor’s recent form is also uneven. They opened the run with a 3-1 win over Portadown at home, then suffered a 3-1 defeat away to Limavady, and most recently drew 1-1 with Glentoran on the road. Over the three games they have scored five and conceded five. All three matches featured three or more goals and each saw both teams get on the scoresheet. The draw with Glentoran shows they can still pick up points away from home, but the loss to Limavady highlights defensive frailties.

When the two clubs have met before, the games have tended to produce goals at both ends, and the numbers for this meeting suggest a similar pattern. Crusaders are expected to score about 1.9 goals, while Bangor average around 1.1. The chance of Crusaders scoring at all is high at 86 %, and they have a 58 % chance of scoring twice or more. Bangor’s chance to score is 67 % with a 31 % chance of a double. This points to an open encounter with chances for both sides, but the home side have the edge in firepower.

We pick Crusaders to win. The price of 2.25 is longer than our own reading of the game, but the numbers give Crusaders a 56 % chance of coming out on top. Their better goal average and the fact they are playing at home should be enough to edge a side that is struggling near the bottom. For the pick to go wrong, Bangor would need to tighten up defensively and take advantage of the few chances they create, perhaps turning a close game into a draw or a surprise win. If Crusaders fail to find a second goal after a narrow lead, the price could look tempting, but we think the stronger side will do enough to secure the three points.
