Fortaleza v Operario Ferroviario: how it went

How it turned out

We projected about 2.0 goals and the game finished with 2. Both teams scored. We made Fortaleza to win 53%. It lost.

What we said beforehand

Fortaleza look the stronger side in this Brazil Série B clash. The goal expectations are 1.3 for Fortaleza and 0.7 for Operário Ferroviário, which points to a tight, low-scoring game. Both teams have shown they can keep things close, so we expect a match where chances are few and the defence will matter more than the attack.

Looking at recent form, Fortaleza have taken three wins, one draw and one loss in their last five league games, whether at home or away. Operário Ferroviário’s recent results are not listed, but the pattern from Fortaleza’s outings suggests they are comfortable enough to pick up points on the road. The numbers also show that Fortaleza have a clear edge, and the past meetings have not produced many goals, reinforcing the idea of a cautious affair.

Our pick is a Fortaleza win. We see them as about a 55 % chance to finish on top, which matches the 1.3-to-0.7 goal expectation. The price on offer is 1.77, which is a bit shorter than what we think the game deserves, so it looks like a decent deal for a side that should edge it.

For this to go wrong, Operário Ferroviário would need to score first and then hold on, or the match would have to open up with several chances for both sides. If either of those happens, the result could flip. We still feel fairly confident in our view, but we know a single goal can change everything, so we keep the stance moderate.
